FEMAP TMG/CFD - effective thermal conductivity

Hello Everyone,

 

I want to calculate effective thermal conductivity on porous structure.

 

Shall I go for steady state heat transfer analysis or shall I use TMG thermal solver for that.

 

Any tutotial or advice would be great help for me.

Hello Varun,

 

Well, unless you want to solve a 3D heat diffusionproblem by hand, or unless your 3D can be simplified to a 2D heat diffusion problem, I would use TMG for that, but still do a steady-state analysis.

From the .log file of the analysis, you can extract the net heat flow across your structure. With the temperatures and the length, you can back-calculate your through-wall heat transfer coefficient.

I suggest you have a look at some of the tutorials available. Just so you know, FEMAP currently runs an older version of TMG (patch 7.5 actually). A lot of improvements have been made since and will be available in the upcoming FEMAP v11.4.FEMAP_Tutorial.pngCheers,
