Help understanding meshing

Creator

Hello,

I need to know what kind of meshing I need to set between two different solids,

The idea is to cut a concrete pile, so the knives slides in the concrete. See the added jpg file for clarification.

Thanks in advance!

Dear Chris,
Well, meshing is the less problem here, this is a severe nonlinear advanced problem with contact + nonlinear material  + nonlinear geometric large displacement effect + allow element rupture, then the solution is complex: of course, solid hex 20-nodes elements is your target (and better 27-nodes using ELCV=1 flag), try to mesh with the best element quality as possible to assure a good convergence of the solution, OK?.

That is a lot of info for a new guy like me! thank you.

Element rupture would be incredible if I can apply that. But when I see all the options in analysis set manager, I am getting a headache. I don't know where to start actually.

Dear Chris,

Element Rupture is an option of the Advance Nonlinear Static (SOL601) add-on module, is not included in the basic NX NASTRAN modules. You can learn more visiting my support web site at the following address: http://www.iberisa.com/soporte/femap/nolinealavanzado/brick27nodos.htm
