IGES file import in FEMAP

Hi all,

I am a new user to FEMAP... I am using FEMAP 11.1.

while importing IGES file (catia) i am getting part body mentioned in geometry in FEMAP.

I would like to have  with part name description in geometry (FEMAP) as mentioned in catia.

please suggest any option or solution.

Thanks in advance....

Re: IGES file import in FEMAP

Dear Shakthi,

I don't understand very well your problem, could you please explain the difficult you experienced using the IGES translator?. Or better share the IGES file and explain what is the source geometry to compare wiith the one imported in FEMAP, OK?.

IGES is a reliable geometry transfer when dealing with curves & surfaces (basically wireframe geometry), if your problem is to transfer 3-D solid bodies then better use STEP translator, is more robust.

Dear Blas_Molero,

Thanks for replying... I dont have any problem while importing the IGES file into FEMAP.

What i meant was after importing IGES file if you see in model info tree.. geometry it will named as part body for all components in assembley which is more generic... see attached image..

i need that to named as mentioned in CAD specififaction Tree.. see attached PPT for details..

Thanks & Regards,

Shakthi

Dear Shakthi,

I suggest to share your CATIA IGES file directly with FEMAP developers, this way they are allowed to investigate the problem (please consider that could be a CATIA problem as well!!) and improve FEMAP as required, thanks!.

Re: IGES file import in FEMAP

The IGES specification does not have entries for entity names, therefore solid names are not written into the IGES output file (unless the vendor creating the entry adds them as a comment field), so the Femap translator does not have the ability to read these names.

Please note that the latest IGES specification is over 15 years old and there are no plans to update this.

I recommend in all cases where a direct translator or Parasolid is not available as an output, to use STEP as a translator.
