Long time until analysis starting in case of Bolt Preload on Solid type Bolt Region

Hello,

 

when I used Bolt Preload on Bar type Bolt Region in my model, the part of my log file war the following:

In this case analysis started after license checked out in 16 seconds.

 

When I used Bolt Preload on Solid type Bolt Region in my model (with tetra elements), the part of my log file war the following:

In this case analysis started after license checked out in more than 1,5 hours.

My model has about 600k elements and 1100k nodes. This analysis ran on computer with 64 GB RAM and Scratch on 1 TB SSD (OS and CPU see in log).

 

I ran this analysis of the same model on other computer too with 32 GB RAM and Scratch on 1 TB SSD. In this case part of log file was the following:

On this computer analysis waited 3 hours after license checked out.

 

What makes NX Nastran during this time? How can I avoid this? This happened with Femap v11.3.2.

Dear Peter,

The best advice: mesh bolts with CHEXA 8-nodes instead CTETRA 10-nodes solid elements, you will get an important model size reduction and this will reduce solution time.

In any case, the use of 3-D SOLID BOLTS instead 1-D bar/beam elements takes its time, the cost is important: the first is a local model, the other is global. With 3-D solid bolts you are able to investigate local effects in detail like contact between bolts & faces of the solid body, etc..

I've made a modification in my model and remake the bolts to HEXA elements. In this case the part of my log file was the following:

In this case analysis started after about 40 min. waiting, but I think this is a long time too. What does NX Nastran in this time?

You may not be getting the complete story from just the log file. Check or post the f04 file to see what Nastran is really doing (if anything) during that time. You can add DIAG 8,15 to get more complete information in the f04 file.
