Questions About Layers

Is there a way to list all of the objects on a particular layer?  Or just determine if anything is on a layer?  Also, what happens when you delete a layer with objects on it?  I can see that it does not delete the objects themselves, but they seem to still be tied to that layer which is no longer accessible in the model tree.

Thank you.

Hi,

You can modify the API provided in the discussion to list items in the layer:

https://community.plm.automation.siemens.com/t5/Femap-Discussion-Forum/List-Elements-in-layer-group/...

or you can go to List -> Model -> Element/Nodes -> Layer

Hi saptarshi14dat! I was afraid of that Smiley Happy I had seen that post and assumed that would be the answer. I just wouldn't let myself believe that this isn't built in functionality. Thanks!

Hello!,

The layer list tool does not tell the user what entities reside on the layer.

A method to verify what entities reside on a layer is the following:

  • Create a group with the entities on that layer using the following command: GROUP > OPERATIONS > GENERATE ENTITIES ON LAYER
  • Select the layer in question and generate the new group.
  • Next list the group to verify the entities ..

Blas.

Any thought on this part of the question?

Hello!,

Perform a FILE > REBUILD command and the layer will appear again, but the original name is lost, instead will appear "Untitled".

Best regards,

Blas.
