Simple model Advanced Non Linear Analysis (connection problem)

Hi everyone,

 

As I'm new with femap I'm doing some experiment with the software.

 

I don't have trouble to run LA, LBA and NLA on simple models but I'm struggling with the Advanced NLA.

Each time I'm analysing I have a fatal error. I think it comes from the definition of my connection between two plates elements.

 

If someone could give me guideline to set up the glued connection I would be most grateful.

 

(Please fin my simple model attached before the connection setup)

Hi,

I haven't had a chance to look at your model files (working on a laptop which doesn't have Femap on it) but I had issues with running contact analysis using SOL 601 (Advanced NL) as well and user EndZ was very helpful in resolving the same.

But I'm still struggling with mine...

The problem is that in my case I'm using a glued connection 'Edge - Face' and those settings don't seem to work.

Edge to Face Glueing is not supported in NX Nastran Advanced Nonlinear.  It you look in the .F06 file, you will see -

I would get rid of the glue, and merge the nodes and run the model that way.

Quick question though: Advanced NL doesn't support glued connection only in case of edge to face connections or in all cases?

Face to Face Glue is supported in Advanced Nonlinear, you could Hex mesh these two parts, glue face to face, and run this analysis in Advanced Nonlinear with Solids.

2 more querries if you don't mind (with merged nodes)

- With the nodes merged why is the Advanced NL running but not the simple static one?

- Is Femap taking into account the overlapped material as 'doubled'?

I haven't seen your newest model, but for Advanced Nonlinear, you should specify a vs. Time function for applying loads.

 

I took your original model, merged the coincident nodes and applied the function shown below to the load and used the Solver and Iteration Convergence settings suggested by Takupfr in an earlier reply and the model runs to completion with out errors.

Thanks, I managed to resolve my problem Smiley Happy

 

But still nobody answered one of my question: with the nodes merged I have overlap a bit of material at the connection. Is Femap taking into account the overlapped material as 'doubled'?
