Dear Siemens 3D simulation user,

Today, Siemens PLM Software announced the new Simcenter portfolio and the upcoming availability of our next generation 3D simulation offering, Simcenter 3D.

Simcenter 3D is Siemens PLM Software’s next generation 3D multi-discipline simulation solution that builds on the heritage of our NX™ CAE, LMS Virtual.Lab™, and LMS Samtech™ products.

It leverages Siemens PLM Software’s NX platform, and integrates from the onset all current NX CAE applications as well as some initial key LMS Virtual.Lab and LMS Samtech applications. Increasingly over the next Simcenter 3D releases, ever more LMS Virtual.Lab and LMS Samtech applications will be integrated.

Simcenter 3D is available as a standalone CAE application, or as an integrated CAD/CAE application within NX.

This article explains the changes for our current 3D Simulation users:

What is the Simcenter portfolio and which products are included in the portfolio?

Simcenter_wheel.pngEngineering departments today must develop smart products that integrate mechanical functions with electronics and controls, utilize new materials and manufacturing methods and deliver new designs within ever shorter design cycles. This requires current engineering practices for product performance verification to evolve into a more predictive role for systems driven product development.

Simcenter software from Siemens PLM Software uniquely combines system simulation, 3D CAE and test to help you predict performance across all critical attributes earlier and throughout the entire product lifecycle.

Products in the portfolio include:

What is Simcenter 3D?

Simcenter 3D is our next generation 3D multi-discipline simulation solution that builds on the heritage of our NX CAE, LMS Virtual.Lab, and LMS Samtech products.

Built on our NX platform, Simcenter 3D is available as a standalone CAE application or as an integrated CAD/CAE application within NX.

What is changing?

  • Starting with Simcenter 3D version 11, NX CAE users will go from using NX CAE to using Simcenter 3D. NX CAE will no longer be referenced with version 11 and later versions.
  • Simcenter 3D version 11 offers new solutions in acoustics and composites, and major enhancements in many other areas. Also LMS’ Motion, Acoustics and Samcef solvers have been integrated.
  • There is a multi-year roadmap to further develop Simcenter 3D with new applications and more major enhancements in future releases.
  • Simcenter 3D provides from the onset the option to use the new Value Based Licensing scheme through which you can purchase token packs that can be used to access most Simcenter 3D applications as well as NX Nastran and LMS Samtech products.
  • The LMS Virtual.Lab and LMS Samtech solutions continue to be developed and sold, so nothing changes on that front and you continue to have access to your solution. Both model and results data from these LMS solutions can be retrieved in Simcenter 3D.
  • LMS Virtual.Lab and LMS Samtech users have the opportunity to use Simcenter 3D for new applications, such as thermal and flow, as well as learn more about Simcenter 3D’s leading capabilities for FE modeling and pre-post processing.
  • Siemens has developed a customer centric Simcenter 3D Conversion Plan that will provide LMS Virtual.Lab and LMS Samtech users the possibility to migrate their current applications to Simcenter 3D, at the moment such Simcenter 3D release will have fully integrated  respective LMS applications.

What is not changing?

  • The user interface, workflows, and data structures that you are familiar with in NX CAE will continue to work as before in Simcenter 3D.
  • NX CAE product packaging has been integrated in Simcenter 3D and is fully transparent compared to NX CAE version 10.
  • Simcenter 3D works seamlessly within NX and with Teamcenter.
  • NX Nastran and LMS Samcef solvers continue to be available as standalone solvers but also power several Simcenter 3D applications.
  • The LMS Virtual.Lab and LMS Samtech solutions continue to be developed, supported and sold, so nothing changes on that front and you continue to have access to and expand your solution.

When can you start using Simcenter 3D?

Simcenter 3D will be available for download through our GTAC site in August, coinciding with the next release of NX.

How can you learn more about Simcenter?

What changes will happen in the Community?

None of the forums or knowledge bases that you currently participate in will change in the near-term. We want all of our users to better understand Simcenter and the products within the portfolio so changes to the Community will happen later in the year after the release of Simcenter 3D in early August. At that time, you will see a new Simcenter category that will house many of the forums and knowledge bases including the NX CAE Forum and NX Simulation Knowledge base. The NX Simulation category will no longer exist.

If you have further questions, please post them below or contact your local Siemens PLM Software representative.
