3D element check

Experimenter
Experimenter

Hello,

I am using NX11 for 3d mesh. The question is about TET10 element quality check. In NX, after meshing, there are no failed elements with default check parameters.

But when loading the model in Patran, there is a large amount of failed when verifying TET elements, in particular for the criterions Edge Angle and Face Skew.

When plotting only failed element, it appears that some of TET10 elements are very thin, so thin that they visually look like TRIA elements.

However, when lauching the job in NAstran, it looks like it is not a problem. There are no errors or warning for this.

I would like to know if this can provide bad results ? Or is there a way or an option in NX so that all TET elements can pass the Patran default quality check ?

Thank you

Best regards

The default quality check tolerances in NX are set to fail the same elements that the solver will fail. As you have seen, no elements fail in either the NX checks or the solver checks.

You can manually adjust the element check tolerances in NX if you wish to cause elements that would pass in the solver to fail in NX.
