when using NX-Nastran V8.5 within Solid Edge ST6, I get the below memory error message in the protocol.
My laptop has Windows Home Premium 7 SP1 64-Bit and 4 GB RAM. Solid Edge version is SolidEdgeV106GERMAN_32Bit.
What can I do to get the solver running successfully?

NX NASTRAN is trying to allocate 1 GB RAM to solve the model, but failed because not available free RAM memory exist in your computer. For FEM/FEA the amount of memory is critical, never is enought!!.
Try to prescribe a smaller amount of memory using the "memory" nastran keyword, for instance try the value mem=0.75gb and see what happens. If the error appear use mem=0.5gb, and so on.
Ther amount of RAM memory depends of the model size (number of nodes, ie, number of DOF), try a smaller model size to see if problem solves (increase the element size) -- good luck!.
to make a certain assumption on memory required for your run use f04 file.
Find ***** User Information Message 4157
you can see Minimum required memory, Memory available, and another very important one - Memory required to avoid spill.
So you can use mem (as well as smem) to define available memory. Note. f04 file has memory messages with figures mesured in Words (so you should convert to Mb if needed)
See user manuals for more details.
it works fine now with mem=0.75GB. Thanks a lot for your help.
also thank you for the hint with the f04 file.
