Optimize in Assembly FEM

I am doing analysis for a steel space frame structure in NX Nastran. I have built the structure as assembly FEM. However I have found out that the optimization modules do not support AFem. Is there an alternative way to optimize the space frame structure? I would like to optimize the location and the section for the frame members

Currently NX NASTRAN Optimization (SOL 200) module under NX AdvSim V10 only supports optimization analyses at the component FEM level. Optimizations of assembly FEM models (AFEM) and superelements are not yet supported. Currently, you can use SOL 200 to perform property-based optimization only. Shape sensitivity analyses are not yet supported.


Then if you want to use the NX NASTRAN (SOL200) Optimization module you will have to convert your Assembly FEM (AFEM) files in one component FEM file, I do not see any other solution or workaround at short term.

It seems AFEM does not give any significant advantage over FEM, so should I avoid use it in the future?
