Sheet metal forming analysis

Hi,
I saw UGS website (http://www.ugs.com/products/nx/docs/fs_nastran_nonlinear.pdf)
shown a sheet metal foeming analysis. I hope to know,
1.Whether this is a permanent deformation or a 'large deformation' which will be
fully reversed back after load released?
2.Is Nastran able to perform such sheet metal forming (permanent) analysis? Where
can I get such related information?

Hello Pingshan,
Yes, the NX Nastran Advanced Nonlinear Solver is able to do sheet metal forming
analysis. The material can be represented with nonlinear stress-strain properties
so that plastic deformation occurs and the metal permanently deforms.
The datasheet you cited is the main documentation we have for this solver. If you
need more information, I suggest you contact your sales representative and they
can hook you up to a local support person.

May I know is this technology being used in the sheet matel stamping process
analysis? Any recommendation for application of this technology?

Hi Pingshan,
NX Nastran Advanced Nonlinear is an integration of the well known Adina non-linear
solver in the NX Nastran environment. User inputs and outputs are completely Nastran-centric,
but the solver behind the scenes is the Adina solver.
As such this solver is used for a wide range of non-linear solutions and has very
broad applications. Some users do use it specifically for analyzing sheet metal
stamping operations - for applications such as forming an oil-pan or car body/chassis
parts.
