Space Frame analysis

N/A

Hi guys,
I have a few questions for you.
One of our customers wants to analyze the space frame they build.
1)Can NX advanced simulation do this?
2)Sometimes this space frame can be very very big. Do they need superelements?
3)Is this module available in NX Advanced simulation? Or do they need NX Nastran
for this?
This space frame thing looks like a frame crane. Has anyone done an analysis on
that to guide us to provide the correct solution for them?
Kind Regards,
Cem Alpay

Re: Space Frame analysis

Hello Cem,
Here are responses to your questions:
1)Can NX advanced simulation do this?
I don't know all the details of their simulation requirements but feel reasonably
certain that NX Advanced Simulation would be very suitable for their applications.
2)Sometimes this space frame can be very very big. Do they need superelements?
I guess it depends how big is big. We have done pre, post, and solve of models
with 25 MDOF on 64-bit systems with sufficient memory and disk. In that case we
did not need superelements. But use of superelements can certainly be helpful and
improve efficiencies.
3)Is this module available in NX Advanced simulation? Or do they need NX Nastran
for this?
We do not currently support superelements with the user interface in NX Advanced
Simulation - and the Nastran solver that comes with Advanced Sim does not include
a superelement license. You can get an add-on Nastran license that includes superelements
with the product NXN112 which is the NX Nastran Advanced Desktop Bundle. Althought
the NX UI does not support it, you can do deck editing of the Nastran input file
to do a superelement analysis - but I would only recommend to someone familiar with
Nastran superelements.
I should add that we are planning to support superelements in NX in a 7.x release.
