face-to-face-contact between shell elements, thickness not considered

Hello 

I'm simulating a bending process where a profile is pressed onto a curved face. Both bodies are modeled with CQUAD4, the mesh of the profile is on the midsurface and has a default thickness of 3 mm and the curved face has a thickness of 0.001 mm. 

The contact happens only when the midsurface hit the other mesh. The associated thickness isn't considered.

Where do I need to change the settings?

Putting the mesh on the upper face of the body is no option, bacause late on I'll need both sides for the contact.

 

The post view on the attached screenshot is set to 1 absolut.

What solution sequence? In SOL 601, shell thickness is not considered by default for contact. You can include shell thickness offset by setting OFFTYPE=2 on BCTPARA.

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I use SOL 601, 106.

in the setting: Type of Offset (OFFTYPE) I can only choose between 

  • Use value for single sided contact
  • Use value for single/double-sided contact
  • Half the shell thickness

with "Half the shell thickness" it works.

Yes, That is the setting I mentioned. OFFTYPE values (and the associated Simcenter dialog label) are:

 

0: Use value for single sided contact

1: Use value for single/double-sided contact

2: Half the shell thickness
