how to applly the stress concentration factor in NX Nastran

 

please advise how to apply stress concentration factor in NX nastran.

 

This is necessary to include stress concentration factors due to shoulder fillet in a stepped beam.

 

(The stress concentration factor can be obtained from peterson's stress concentration factor data hand book).

Hello!,

This is more up to you than from the NX NASTRAN solver side:

  • If you mesh the beam using 1-D CBEAM elements then you are creating a GLOBAL Finite Element model, not possible to detect any local stress concentration, the beam element do not offer this capability.
  • If you mesh your beam geometry using a detailed 3-D solid mesh with good quality and well refined, then your stress results will detect the local stress concentration you may have in your geometry.

Then you see this is a job of the PREPROCESSOR you are running and the decision taken from the FEA user side of what element type to use to capture locally the stress field. If your mesh (both element type & density) is correct, then your stress results will mach perfectly with the stress concentration factor tables you have in the literature, sure!!.
