Adaptive mesh refinment in NX CAE?

Pioneer

Hi,

This is more of a question to the development teams at SIEMENS...

I know adaptive mesh refinement is not supported in NX CAE.

The question is, is this function going to be supported in the near future?

I know alot of the major CAE packages do support this option.

I have alot of problems that it will make my life easier if this function will be available instead of begining with a very fine mesh from the begining of the analysis.

Thanks.

Actually your question should be re-phrased as "when is Siemens going to improve the adaptive meshing capabilities already in NX". It's there, but it is limited in scope and robustness. You can find it today with Command Finder and search for "adaptivity". It is limited to linear statics solutions and it applies to only the last step/subcase in a multi-step/subcase solution.

We have a development project targeted at improving and expanding the scope of adaptive meshing. I can't comment much further with respect to future releases. Do you have particular use cases that you wish to see supported?

Hi Mark,

Currently the major advantage for me will be in nonlinear contact, at the contact interface I guess.

Does the "adaptive" function currently applies to tetra elements only or also to 2D quad? (for axisymmetric problems).

Adaptivity currently supports tetrahedron, 2D triangle, and quadrilateral meshes. It refines based upon strain energy gradients. Contact is supported to the extent that it is supported for linear statics solutions.
