This tips and Tricks shows how to use the **Mechanical Load Summary** command in NX to compute the total forces and moments for the active structural analysis solutions or sub cases. This command allows you to verify that you have correctly applied loads to your model before running the simulation.

## Core content

You can use **Mechanical Load Summary** to verify both geometry-based and FE-based loads. However, **Mechanical Load Summary** ignores any geometry-based loads that are not associated to an existing mesh. For time or frequency-dependent loads, the **Mechanical Load Summary** command allows you to control the time or frequency at which NX computes the total forces and moments.

## Steps

In the simulation navigator, select the active solution or sub case, right-click and select **Mechanical Load Summary**.

In the **Mechanical Load Summary** dialog and under the **Solution/Loads** group, NX automatically selects all the loads in the active solution or sub case. In case you want to exclude any individual load from the calculation simply use the **Select Loads** to deselect any individual load.

In the **Reference CSYS** group, you can specify a reference coordinate system (**Reference CSYS**). NX reports the total forces and moments with respect to this reference coordinate system. NX also calculates the total moments for the solution or sub case about the origin of that reference coordinate system. You have the option to create a new coordinate system (Cartesian, Cylindrical, and Spherical) or to select an existing coordinate system from the simulation navigator.

The **Time Option** group is available for time-dependent solutions, such as NX Nastran SOL 109, 112, and 601. This option lets you specify the time at which to evaluate the total loads. If you specify a time at which no loads are applied, NX reports the total loads as zero.

The **Frequency Option** group is available for frequency-dependent solutions, such as NX Nastran SOL 108 and 111. This option lets you specify the frequency at which to evaluate the total loads. If you specify a frequency at which no loads are applied, NX reports the total loads as zero.

The **Output Options** group lets you select the units in which to display the data.

When you have defined your desired settings, click on **OK **to generate the mechanical load summary report.
