Idealized parts: promoting curves

For reference, I am using NX 10.0.3.5.

 

I'm in the process of simplifying an idealized part. The part consists of a swept cross-section which I would like to model with finite element beams (i.e., 1D elements). I've created a curve which corresponds to the centerline of the swept geometry; however, I can't figure out how to promote the curve so that I can mesh it in the .fem file; when I switch from the idealized part to the .fem, the curve is not visable. In the Advanced Simulation documentation (https://docs.plm.automation.siemens.com/tdoc/nx/10.0.3/nx_help/#uid:id967842), it seems like this should be possible (see snippet below from the documentation reference). Does anyone know how to go about doing this?

Edit the FEM. Go into Geometry Options and ensure that all of the wireframe options are on (lines/arcs/splines).
