Plastic Material Data in NX

Hello,

 

I want to make an Sol 601 calculation by using plastic material data. I have to use a special material. I have the stress - strain data of the material at three different strain ranges, but I don´t know how to include the data from the different strain ranges in NX by using the Material Manager.

 

In Abaqus are three columns are available for defining stress strain data. At the first the stress value is written, in the second the strain value and in the third the according strain range. After typing all the data for the first strain range it is possible to write subsequently in the same table without any line kept free the data for the second strain range, and so on.

 

Does anybody has experience how to include stress strain data of different strain ranges in NX?

What you are describing sounds  similar in form to NX 9 enhancements to temperature dependent stress-strain data. That release lets you define a temperature dependent table of stress-strain curves. The stress-strain curves are defined as fields. For each temperature you assign a stress-strain field. In your case you want to define a strain range table of stress-strain curves? This sounds similar as well to NX Nastran advanced nonlinear gasket materials (MATG), in which you can define multiple unloading curves. This is possible in NX. The concepts you are describing aren't foreign to NX, so there is some hope.

 

Do you know what type of material would be used in Abaqus? I would check to see if the Abaqus material is supported in NX, then also if there’s an equivalent in NX Nastran advanced nonlinear. If there is an equivalent material in NX Nastran advanced nonlinear, it may still not be available in NX. If you can provide more details, then I can chase this down on my end.

I'm not sure what stress-strain data with respect to strain range is. Do you mean you have rate dependent material data (3 different stress-strain datasets collected at different strain rates)?

Hello Jim,

yes, exactly.
As I got this information from a colegue, these data are necessary when kinematic or combined hardening should be considerd.
He said in Abaqus there is also the possibility to define that the material data is already stabelized or not, dependent on the available material data. So if already stabelized material data is available it is not necdesary to calculate at least three or more cycles of the loading.

I have the material data as it is written in the input file of Abaqus (see below), but at the moment I don`t know how to apply this in an NX material definition.

I also saw the possibility to define temperature dependent stress-strain data in NX 9 and thought there is a similar way to define stress-strain data collected at different strain rates.

NX does not support strain rate dependent material definitions. NX Nastran does not support strain rate dependent materials for any of its solutions either. The infrastructure is in place to do so as temperature dependent material properties are supported. You have enhancement requests here for pre-processing and the solver.

 

If solving your model in Abaqus, you could include material properties in a solution as user defined text in the solution set defined in NX, or as an input file edit prior to solving.
