I am modelling a pretensioned solid bolt in a small assembly model. The bolt has a nut and bolt head which are glued to the shaft. I get quick convergence if the contact type between the shaft and hole is set to 'glued'. But I searched for literature related to bolt pretension modeling and found out that the shaft should not be bonded to the hole.
The model is divergent if the contact between the shaft and hole is set to 'frictionless'. I tried to get convergence by refining the mesh near the nut and bolt head but that doesn't help. Has anyone faced this problem before and knows how to resolve this?

You have rigid body motion, the bolt shaft can rotate around the axis, then the error. You need to stabilize the model: one method is to study half model and use symmetry, another is to use friction, and another method is to use long thin beams attached to the ends of the bolt and constrained the free ends of the beams. Do not use GLUE between shaft & hole, this is not correct.
