Icon Size When Using FEMAP on 4K Screen **UPDATE**

There was already a thread on this but I was not satisfied with the larger icon answer as the model tree check boxes remain microscopic. But I did find a good workaround that someone figured out for another program that just takes a little bit of registry editing and works for any program experiencing windows scaling issues:

This worked for me for Windows 10 and Femap 11.3.2 (subscription version). For additional reference, here is a link to a Microsoft support file on the topic: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912949/en-us

First perform these steps from the article:

  1. Press  Windows Button + R, type “regedit”, and then click OK.
  2. (Export a backup of your registry just in case...)
  3. Navigate to the following registry subkey:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion SideBySide
  4. Right-click, select NEW > DWORD (32 bit) Value
  5. Type PreferExternalManifest, and then press ENTER.
  6. Right-click PreferExternalManifest, and then click Modify.
  7. Enter Value Data and select Decimal.
  8. Click OK. Exit Registry Editor.

Now all you have to do is provide a "manifest file" in the same folder as your femap executable. I've attached the manifest text file (femap.exe.manifest.txt) to this post. You will just have to remove the ".txt" file extension manually before it will work.

Also, for lucky users running 4K screens, the new Windows 10 Creators Update service pack provides great improvement in this area, take a look to Windows blog in the following address:

High-DPI Scaling Improvements for Desktop Applications in the Windows 10 Creators Update

Re: Icon Size When Using FEMAP on 4K Screen **UPDATE**

Thanks Blas. I just got the update and can report that this solution also works! In the properties for femap.exe, on the "compatibility" tab, I toggled "Override high DPI scaling behavior" and set "Scaling performed by:" to "System".

Unfortunately the "System (Enhanced)" option did not work for me. Unfortunate because the icons and text are indeed more crisp but the model window itself was scaled directly to the screen resolution so became very small. Hopefully Siemens will get around to optimizing Femap for modern displays soon. In the meantime this method is much easier to implement than editing the registry.
