There was already a thread on this but I was not satisfied with the larger icon answer as the model tree check boxes remain microscopic. But I did find a good workaround that someone figured out for another program that just takes a little bit of registry editing and works for any program experiencing windows scaling issues:

First perform these steps from the article:
Now all you have to do is provide a "manifest file" in the same folder as your femap executable. I've attached the manifest text file (femap.exe.manifest.txt) to this post. You will just have to remove the ".txt" file extension manually before it will work.
