Once you’ve downloaded the installation zip file, unzip the contents to a temporary location and run the “setup.exe” file, and the installer program will start.
In the installation menu dialog select the desired platform, either 32-bit or 64-bit version of the language requested at the time you registered for the free trial is selected, and click the Install button.
In the Welcome dialog, click Next to continue the installation.
In the License Agreement dialog, select the “I accept the terms of the license agreement” radio button, then click Next to continue with the installation.
In the next dialog you need to choose a location for the installation. Here you can click the Browse button and select a folder, or simply accept the default which is c:\femapv103\. Click Next to continue with the installation.
In the next dialog you’ll need to select the features to install. Ensure that the top four options are selected – Femap, NX Nastran, Examples and Help. If you use Solid Edge then you can also switch on the Solid Edge Connection to facilitate the transfer of model data from Solid Edge to Femap.
Click Next to continue with the installation.
Next, select the licensing method. Ensure that the Network Client option is selected. This will provide the full unlimited version of Femap with NX Nastran in terms of geometry and FE model size.
Click Next to continue with the installation, and in the following dialog, click Install to start the installation.
Towards the end of the installation process, you will be prompted to select a folder for the scratch directory, by default this will be c:\scratch. To change this you can click on the Browse button. The scratch area is required to store temporary files created by NX Nastran during an analysis. Ensure that full read and write privileges are set for the directory selected.
Click Next to move to the next dialog.
In the final dialog, click Finish to complete the installation of Femap with NX Nastran.
The final step is to save the license file supplied by an earlier email to the Femap install directory – c:\femap by default. Ensure that the license file name is “license.dat”. Note that some versions of Windows will try to append a “.txt” extension to the file, creating a file named “license.dat.txt”. When using “Save As” in Windows, be sure to change the “Save as type” to “All Files (*.*)”, enter the filename “license.dat” and save the file in the same directory where Femap was installed.
Congratulations, you have completed the installation and are now able to use Femap with NX Nastran!
