PGAP Preload in SOL 106 analysis

Dear Femap users,

 

I need to apply a bolt preload in a NL analysis (SOL106).

I saw that bolt preload is not inlcuded in this module, and then I would like to create this effect by mean of PGAP card.

I've performed some analysis but I see that this input data is not considered in the model.

There are other particular setting that I miss?

Rod/Beam (maybe CBUSH too) and material with thermal expansion coefficient - you freeze bolt so it tight two parts together. This is oldschool bolt preload. But you have to calculate bolt shortening by hands before analisys or make couple of runs to get desired preload value.

I've already performed an analysis with this technique (thanks for your indication), but I would like to learn another method, and understand why PGAP option not work.

Dear Stefano,

Simply play with temperature to obtain the effect of bolt preloading: Strain = AlphaX • DeltaT, then compute the amount of DeltaT necessary to obtain the displacement caused by bold preload.

thanks for your reply. I've already use this option with success in my model, but I saw that there 's also PGAP option, and I would like to understand how can I use it (my curiosity)!!
