Simulating .stl files

Hi everyone,

I'm a new user of FEMAP and I'm testing it with .stl files, but my problem is that always I try to simulate something in FEMAP, the program shows me a fatal error and do not continue the silmulation, doesn't matter what the .stl file is. The error is "USER FATAL MESSAGE 9058 SESTATIC" and I don't know what is the problem. In attachment is a picture where the error is showed.

I apologize if this problem is answered in other place, but I couldn't find it.

Can somebody help me??

Anyway thanks for helping me.

Best regards,

ADiogo

Dear ADiogo,

The best way to help you is to have in hand your FEMAP model, please post it here and we will take a look to it, then we will know exactly the source error, OK?.

Best regards,
Blas.

I have tried lots of stl files, but the problem continues. Maybe the .stl files are the problem.

Thank you for your help Blas.

Hello!,

To have STL files is good, but to know the reason of the error we need to have your FEMAP model, this is where you do your assuntions of material properties, loads & BCs. The error is given by NX NASTRAN, then post your FEMAP model, thanks!.

Best regards,
Blas.

I think you are talking about the file in attachment, right?

Thank you again

Hello!,

I see the FEMAP model, well, the error is clear: the mesh is not exported to the NX NASTRAN solver because is PLOT-ONLY, i.e., don't have properties. You have imported the STL file, yes, but what you have is a collection of 2-D triangles, not any solid mesh: you need to create a solid mesh using as "seed mesh" the imported triangles, OK?. Now I have to leave the office, but later this evening I will record a video to let you how to arrive to a correct Finite Element model.

Hello!,

The STL file has wrong quality, impossible to mesh using MESH > GEOMETRY > SOLIDS FROM ELEMENTS command, elements donot form a single outer surface. When you import a STL file in addition to just translating the triangular facets, FEMAP can automatically merge all coincident points and split any facets that are necessary to eliminate free edges in the mesh. The options control merging, definition of short edges, as well as closing of gaps. This results in a valid finite element mesh, although typically with very bad aspect ratio elements. I tried to remesh facets with the MESH > REMESH commands, but the initial mesh in STL file was terrible wrong, with interferences, then impossible to fix. I suggest to improve mesh size when exporting the STL file.

Tet Mesh from Elements
14735 Element(s) Selected...
Checking Elements...
Elements do not form a single outer surface. There are too many elements connected to Nodes 483 and 489.

Oh, I didn't understand that. I will try to export a better mesh next time.

Again, tanhk you for your time!
