Fluid Mesh Error : ERROR #002100010 has occurred in subroutine SECTOR.

Hello,

I am modleing simple flow through fins of a heat sink using the mixing length flow model. The model requires 30<Y+ <60 therefore I am trying to adjust the height of the cells near the walls by using boundary layer mesh in fem environment. The way I do this is by creating 2D QUAD seed mesh on the surfaces I would like to have boundary layer mesh on, and then apply boundary layer mesh control with the desired first layer height. Then, I apply 3D tet mesh to the fluid body which takes care of creating the Pyramid_transition, BL_HexWedges, BL_tets, and BL_Pyramids elements automatically. The mesh seems fine and it passes all the ratio tests however, when I try to solve my model in sim (coupled thermal-flow) , I keep getting the following error :

 +--------------------------------------------------------------------+
 | ERROR #002100010 has occurred in subroutine SECTOR.                |
 | Message:                                                           |
 | One of the sector volumes of an element is equal or less than zero.|
 | It means that there exists an illegal grid,  execution will be     |
 | stopped immediately.                                               |
 | The element sequential number is:     228283                       |
 | The element label is:     948761                                   |
 | The sector volume is:  -0.9226E-01                                 |
 +--------------------------------------------------------------------+

I looked up this element and it belongs to the 3d_Pyramid_transition group of elements. I don't understand how this is happening and how it can be fixed. Any help on this would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Ap2

Hello Ap2

Are you using latest TMG patch only ? If not try with that.

BTW, Do you have any boundary layer mesh ? If could remove , still the error comes.

Thanks & Regards

RB

Hi RB,

Thanks for your reply, I am using NX 12.0.2.9 and my TMG version is 12.0.9 , both are the latest.

When I remove the boundary layer mesh, the error does not appear. So I am convinced that the error has to do with the boundary layer mesh.

Thanks,

Amir

Try to make wedge-tetra mesh, without pyramids.

I heard that TMG Flow don`t support pyramids, but I`m not 100% sure about that.

Karachun,

The software creates the Pyramid_transition mesh automatically and I am not sure how to change the settings to force it to make wedge-tetra mesh instead. Do you know how to do it?

SOLUTION: I was using serial solver which does not go so well with boundary layer mesh from fem. By switching to parallel solver the error is resolved.
