Non-Linear Dynamic simulation with element rupture

Hi,

 

Short question. Is it possible to simulate with Simcenter 3D the dynamic impact (contact) analysys of two objects (steel, not composites)? Key is modelling of element rupture.

I know it is possible for static analysis, but what about dynamic? Is it still Nastran Solver to be used or different solver integrated in Simcenter?

But I dont know any details because I never worked with explicit solver.

SOL 601,129 can be used.

I just put my 2c.

First: I recently test element rupture - it works in all solutions SOL601,106; SOL601,129 and SOL701.

Second: But be aware - element rupture only mean that element will be deleted from solution when strain (I suppose equivalent strain) exceed max strain in s-s curve i.e. larger than strain at last point. It is not true rupture mechanics with crack propagation and other complicated math. If you are comfortable with that assumptions than ok.

I suppose element rupture is good tool when you deal with whole structure member like beam rather than shell/solid mesh with stress concentrations and other features.
