We design gaging & fixturing for the manufacturers of turbine blades for both Aerospace & power generation companies. The one area that we have problems with is where on these parts is the optimal point to clamp the part to prevent it from moving off of the datum locators. All of these parts have freeformed surfaces that normally get 6 defined points that the part sits on for locating the part in a fixture. These points are defined on their part prints as datum locators. We then have to guess where at on the part to clamp so that it keeps the part located on all 6 locators without moving them off of those locations. Could simulation do this or is there some other program that would be able to. Thanks.
