Hi all!

 

For a spotweld fatigue analysis, which output request shall be made to the fem solver?

 

Gpforce for Nastran and nforce for Abaqus?

Special methods for welds

 

For welded structures, the finite element tools typically can not predict the local stresses correctly, due to the missing level of detail. Therefore weld fatigue methods rely on a more detailed analysis of the finite element results.

Finite element tools handle solve for displacements by taking into account the equilibrium of forces. Therefore, the weld methods try to directly work with this basic data. All Virtual.Lab methods therefore need as an input the element-nodal forces and moments. You will need

in your file at least at the connection points where the weldments are.

Special methods are implemented in Virtual.Lab Durability to estimate the stresses in a way such that they can be used in specialized spot and seam weld analysis cases.
