CNTASET stops the simulation from being written

Hi All,

 

Wondering if you can help.


I have a moderately large model with a number of contact regions. It's taking about an hour on my I7, 64GB, 500GB SSD workstation for a single loadcase of SOL101 and I'm trying to speed it up.

 

The direct solver is much quicker than the iterative solver, I think due to the contact iterations, but when I add the param CNTASET=YES to try and speed it further, it does not solve with the direct solver. It submits and runs with the iterative solver with this turned to yes.

 

I have 170gb spare on the SSD which is where the scratch directory is located.

 

The following is all I get as an error:

Does anyone know what might cause this? It looks like it basically doesn't even try. If I turn of CNTASET then it runs fine with the direct solver.

This is hard to troubleshoot without full log files. Could you post the .f04, .f06 and .log files from this run?

The issue is due to to the fact that there are some type of constraints in the model (RBE2, RBE3, MPC, RBAR etc.). A DMAP call to GP4 has the output datablock for the constraint matrix omitted.

 

If you have a DMAP license, the following ALTER should address the issue (note that this is a line based alter and is only valid for NXN 11.0. Line numbers will be different in other versions):
