NX Nastran - System Fatal 1123 - Database Out of Range

Hi, I'm getting this error on a SIM file that has been modified but previously ran - details in attached screenshot.

 

I can't find any info online and my colleague can't make sense of it either. Can anyone please help?

I don't really see antything amiss. The error looks like a memory issue. Maybe try tunning serial and/or reducing the memory allocation. Other than that, contact GTAC for a more in-depth look.

I submitted a ticket with GATC yesterday and am waiting to hear back, so will update this when I have a response / hopefully a solution.

Just to update this, I tried re-running with the original surface contacts and did not get this error, so tried adding glue contacts (each of which replace a relevant surface contact) back in until this error reappeared. It seemed there was a limit to the amount of glue contacts I could reintroduce (all but three) so I eventually got it running past the FATAL ERROR by adjusting the DBALL and SCRATCH up to 1000GB.

 

However, having added a few more glue contacts this morning the model once again throws up this error and will not run no matter what I try.

 

I'm also quite confused as to why it runs with surface CONTACT but not with GLUE, because surely using multiple contacts is a significantly more complex model - in fact, the reason I added glue in the first place was to reduce solution times for initial fault-finding runs. Can anyone explain why this might be causing problems?

Just to update this for anyone experiencing the same issue..

 

I got a response from GTAC last week:

 


I was keen to provide answer early last week on Monday. But as I was in contact with development, I expect to get a global overview and explanation of the issue.

 

The problem occurs because system buffer is being used to store a certain contact datablock record within the modgm2b module. The default system buffer size is not sufficiently large enough for a problem of this magnitude where the contact datablock is quite really huge.

 

This occurs only in Nastran 12.xx and higher because the usage of system buffer was related to a change made in bolt cut plane connection going from MPCs to using glue.

The problem only occurs in models that are particularly large with a large contact datablock. Hence, none of the models we have in our testing and none of the customer models, thus far, showed this issue.

 

As a result, we have a fix that will get into NX version 1884 (Simcenter Nastran 2019.2).

I'm going to try and reduce the size of the contact data block by changing some less essential elements from HEX20 to HEX8, so will update this if that fixes the issue.
