3D Profile Under Ledge

I have a part that I am cutting using a form ground slot mill that makes a shape on the bottom of a ledge.  I would like to approach at an upward angle and retract downward but using a negative value in Z has no effect. Any suggestions?  The toolpath is generated using 3D Profile and I am following a spline around the part.

I'm not sure I understood your question, but maybe you could use Start and Return points in Avoidance section of non-cutting moves.

I did try as you suggested, but the engage and retract are still starting and ending the cut in a planar move. I was hoping for a 3D style of ramp feeding into the cut, and the same for retract.

if engage and retract ramps have to be linear you could use linear along vector as engage and retract methods.

if they are not linear I'm afraid you have to change operation type, for example you could use fixed contour with a drive curve comprising engage and retract path.
