  • Export your holders to the library
  • Export your cutters to the library
  • Add the correct holder to the cutter on demand

This is already possible and you have to create the holders and cutters only once.

You invest a huge amount of time once to have things ready afterwards, there is no other way currently.

I would create an enhancement request for each and every thing that NX is lacking. If it is of interest for other customers too, then it is more likely to get included in a future release.

Take what you have today and use it, I have many things reported and while I was waiting for their implementation, I found a way to work around the problem.

Thank you for your suggestion. Can this be done with Manufacturer Solids or Parametrically? I don't mind parametric definitions but would much rather do it with solids if possible; the cutters can be parametric as it makes it faster do define.

You could use the solids to create the parametric definition from it to be exported to the library.

Mark has posted a journal to create parametric holders from solids, which you could utilize in the process.

I envision the following work-flow for a journal:

  1. import a holder from a directory
  2. use parts of Marks journal to add the holder to a dummy tool
  3. export the holder definition to the library
  4. delete the holder from the tool
  5. delete the imported holder
  6. start with step 1) until all holders are imported from the library

This is already possible with NX 10 and above, since tool export to the library through NXOpen API was introduced in NX 10.

Before you ask, sorry I am not able to provide the journal to do this, since I am currently loaded with other things.

I agree with @Stefan_Pendl  I don't see a need to use the solid holders, other than to create parametric holders in the library. Use the program described here to put each holder in the library, then forget about the solid models.
