Adaptive milling spline instead of arcs

Is there a way to get adative milling to output arcs instead of goto points.  the part is round.  the list is matching the posted code.  it really slows down the path on some of our older mills.

What output type have you selected?

using NX 12.0.0.27 mp2

 

arc pepr to tool axis.  i also tried arc perp / par to tool axis with no changes

Verify the toolpath

Determine where the arcs are being output as arcs, and where as linear moves.

 

*guessing* the moves along the wall are arcs, and the "looping" to clean out the corners are linear moves?

 

If so, you are running into a design limitation of this operation type. Siemens would have to comment further, but it is my understanding this operation type is meant for machines that can do high speed machining.  So having a gazillion points is no problem.

 

If your mill can't go that fast, you might want to look at using some of the other planar mill operation types, to clean out the material in the corners, and then profile the wall, and use arc moves to do it.

Hi Ken,

 

its the oppisite of what you have described.  the arc on the small moves removing the conrers and the go to are the large outer moves.

 

at this point its not a big deal.  we also have volumill so the problem has been solved.  was just hoping it was a setting of some sort that i was unaware of.

Have you tried the same in NX 12.0.1?

This operation type is currently under heavy development, so you are using the initial phase with NX 12.0.0!

The operation gets improved nearly every 3 months due to the agile development used for CAM enhancements.

From my point of view Siemens will first try to get to a dedicated point of stability for this operation, before they will invest in outputting more analytic tool path segments, like arcs.

To help diagnose your results the End Point display setting will quickly show you the CL points...

 

This is what the dialog looks like in 11 and 12, a little different from 10.
