Alternative to spiral milling (need to reverse spiral direction)?

Legend
Legend

What would be a viable option for finishing a steep cone on the inside? Spiral would be perfect if it had the option to reverse the spiral direction. I need a smooth finish and would prefer one continuous path from periphery to center. The part is plastic and can be cut with a ball mill in one pass as long as the direction is down. The part is 3-ax.

Thanks/Harri

Hello hjoy,
thank you for your question.
Would you be able to upload the part, so I can have a look at it?
Cheers
Alexander

Thanks Alexander!

Not the real part but a quick mockup with the same feature. My goal is to drill with a 1.7mm drill, then finish with a long 1mm ball.

Thanks!

Thanks Pajalin!

Unfortunately I'm still on NX 10 and can't open the file. Is the path one smooth(ish) sweep? I remember there's an option tho stagger transfers and move smoothly along the surface. There's a video somewhere on youtube, but couldn't find it..

Cheater method #1...

On the process, right mouse button click...

--> Toolpath --> edit, click the reverse tool path button.

Will completely reverse your tool path.

However if you regenerate it will go back to normal.

So best to lock, it so you do not forget and regen

That's a nice one Paul! Spiral is so easy to create, no fiddling around with drive vectors etc.
