Since CAM started creating automatic linked geometry we have created a linked body in our cam files to minimise the random feature creation. also this helps with creating check, drive, tool axis and other geometry if required.

 

Holemaking seems to creates some issues, I am not sure if these are related to selecting geometry from the linked body rather than the component.

 

Create holemilling geometry and operations, then move the component the linked body updates but the holemilling geometry stays in the original location.

 

Deleted the CAM setup, start a new CAM session and the hole making geometry is still fubar!!

 

Is the underlying holemaking geometry not part of the CAM setup? How can we clean this up?

 

What is the best practice for:

  1. Dealing with the linked geometry situation?
  2. Selection of CAM geometry from linked bodies or components?
  3. Selection of holemilling geometry?

The new drilling operations introduced in NX 9 use FBM machining features, so you will have to check them out in the machining feature navigator in CAM.

There you can approve any changes applied to the feature, so that they get inherited by the operation.

 

We are always using linked bodies and haven't had any problems that the hole geometry didn't update the hole position.

Hole milling on linked bodies isn't working any different from hole milling on "regular" NX geometry. The hole milling geometry automatically updates to the new location (I just tried it).

 

Please share a copy of your problem part if it doesn't work for you.

This may be related to some other problems with parasolid imports.

 

I found another issue yesterday were selecting hole geometry from an imported solid works parasolid would freeze the display. Luckily this is already fixed in mp6.

 

Any idea on why deleting cam setup doesn't clean up FBM objects?

The setup is only affecting the ONT, machining features are not part of how the part is placed on the machine or how it is machined.

The machining features are not bound to the machine, they are general objects valid for any machine.
