CSE - turret with 2 channels

Hi everybody,

I want to start a discussion Smiley Happy

We have a machine tool with 4 channels. The turret can be used in channel 1 or 2.

For us the right way is to swith the channel for every operation or tool.

What do you think? What would you do?

Hi Victor, that will be a cool discussion :-)

I like to better understand the use case.

You say the turret (holding tools) will be driven either by channel 1 or channel 2. That means different NC code files (channels) will drive the tool from that turret; is that correct. Can you share a picture of that machine tool?

Hi Thomas,

you're right, that's correct.

The turret is used for the main and counter spindle. And both spindles have an own channel.

There are many ways to get the channel informations. In my opinion a clear way is to be based on the real machine. One pocket, a device and then the option to choose a channel to work with.

We develop a Benzinger Take 5.

Hello Victor, understood the Take 5. In that case how you suggested to set up the ONT should work.

Hi Thomas,

it works fine, we found it out Smiley Happy

But is it a good way?

Our customer think another method is good. Perhaps we take two turret devices, one for channel one and another device for channel two.

In this way we get problems with tool devices, for example a dual tool holder.

Hard to say what is the best way, at least one which works ;-)
Sure two turrets might be easier for the visibility inside the ONT, but then you need to find a workaround for the dual tool holders, also not perfect.

As this is not a "normal" machine tool there is not THIS ONE way to do it.
The good think is that it can be solved with NX.
