Contact Tool Position on Area Milling Boundaries

Hello all,

I am Arun from india. I have a small query about CONTOUR SURFACE AREA.

I am doing a 3+1 axis machining using contour surface area for a blade profile.

I would like to know in the surface area dialog box, we have an option of TANTO or ON for tool position. I would like to know what are the pluses and minuses of each option. The reason behind is I am getting a smoother toolpath when i use ON function, However I am not sure if this option is going to eat into my profile.

Kindly throw some light on this option.

Tanto means that the drive pathe is calculated with consideration of the tool

On means the drive path is only calculated for the drive surface.

If you use part geometry, youre toolpath is likely not to cover the complee cutting area

If you dont use part geometry, youre toolpath will gauge the part.

Personally I use tanto for 99%. In some cases -especially when the drive surface is not a part surface it might be better to use on.
