Cylindrical Interpolation, 4-axis STL (facet body) milling etc.

Morning!

Just now I finished one interesting project. My potential customer ask me about postprocessor for 4-axis СТС Machine. And - he want to wrap planar milling and fixed contour operations onto cylinder.

For example - this is a planar milling with visualisation in NX 2D Dynamic (this is animated GIF, I dont know - can you see animation? Click on image.)

 

I build very simple CSE-model for test my ideas and - you can see a "wrapped" tool path:

 

Then we load STL (two-heads eagle, from Russian gerb) and generate FIXED CONTOUR tool path to engrave this STL and - wrap onto cylinder:

 

And final result :

Incredible! Robot surprised I am not sure if NX was ever meant to be able to do that sort of thing (my knowledge being very shallow) so I applaud your abilities to get every last little bit out of NX!

What is the option to wrap the plannar milling operation over a cylindrical face.

Kindly show the steps.

I have two possibilities to "wrap" planar milling operation to cylyndrical (conical, spherical) face.

 

1. UDOP, when inside NX I recalc planar toolpath to 4-axis toolpath. I do it with UGOPEN application

 

 

2. Secon way - I recalc planar toolpath with postprocesor, as in start topic.

You can find few examples in UGOPEN forlder NX.
