Design features shown while exporting 3D tool assembly to tool library

Hello experts,

I am still learning. I modeled a probe with sketches, datum planes and other design features. I put them into layer 2 and made them invisible.

Capture1.PNG

However, when I exported this model to the tool library and used this model as my solid tool, I got the model representation as the following:

Capture12.PNG

As can be seen, all the sketches, datum planes and other auxillary features are shown again. Does anybody have a solution for this?

I am running NX7.5 on the Win7 64bit system.

Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Stephan

From the docs

NX library > Customizing NX Library > Tool assembly part files

Place any auxiliary geometry (e.g., datum planes, curves) on layer 100 as this is blanked during visualization.

Place the solid tool assembly (tool, insert, and holder) on layer 1 for it to display in Verify.

Thanks agrivas for your reply.

However, even though I placed all the auxillary geometries to layer 100, saved the file and exported tool to library again. I still see all the sketches or datum planes in my visualizaion.

Do I need to re-model my tool?

Not sure why its not working as documented.

maybe a call to GTAC

another option might be to check what is included in the "Model" reference set

How are your assembly settings configured?

NX always uses the entire part reference set by default and original layer.

If you have your settings configured for work layer, you will always see the sketch despite the containing layer.

Re: Design features shown while exporting 3D tool assembly to tool library

Hi Stefan_Pendl

Thank you for your input.

Maybe I misunderstood you but I still don't quite get it. Say if there are two part components, they are both created based on datum planes, sketches or other auxillary geometries. In the assembly, one component is placed under work layer and the other is placed under layer 100. Does that mean auxillary geometries will still be shown for the one that is under work layer?

In my case, I didn't do the assembly.I have one part only and I export this part to the tool library directly. Therefore, I don't know where to look for assembly settings.

May I ask what is the workaround in my situation?

Thanks in advance

When you manually add a component to a part, what are the default settings?

Reset the dialog to get the default settings if you have dialog memory enabled.

Re: Design features shown while exporting 3D tool assembly to tool library

Thank you again for your kind reply. I think there's some misunderstanding here.

I didn't add a component to a part. Here is what I did:

1) Open a new part file

2) Model the tool with sketches and datums

3) Click start and select "manufacturing"

4) Insert a new solid tool

5) select the csys, tracking point and sterm length

6) export the tool to library.

I know that you don't add a component, but NX is using something similar internally, so these settings are also taken into account.

Thank you again for your reply.

But I still have no idea how to workaround this situation. Would you describe how you create a model and export it to library without the sketches and datum planes showing during visualization?
