Drilling depth

Hi,

I was wondering if there was a way when setting a manual depth for a drilling operation, if I could set the depth based on the top of the workpiece, not the depth of the hole from the start of the hole. When doing deeper holes and trying to figure out tool clearances, this would be most helpful.

Thanks.

Re: Drilling depth

If you use drill operation you can set any depth manually.

Re: Drilling depth

Hi Imperial,

I think from NX10.0.3 and NX11.0.0 on in Feature Geometry of your operation you can change the Control Point from In-Process... to Machining Feature. Then you machine the hole from the start of the feature independent of IPW.

I have no NX at hand, but am quite sure this should be it. (If I understood you correctly)

Best wishes,

Re: Drilling depth

You can use the 3D IPW in the feature geometry dialog of the drilling operations to drill from the blank body.

Hi imperial,

Stefan is right. I just overread something in your post.

Best wishes,

Re: Drilling depth

The blank at the point is the same as the part. I'll have to make a demo of what I'm talking about.
