FASC - arc output

Just migrated from NX7.5 to NX10.0.3.5 MP5.

We have some fixed axis contouring operations on a part.

Part geometry is roughly a cylinder with "blobs" attached (mounting lugs, etc.)

(fixed) Tool axis is perpendicular to cylinder centerline, zig passes cut along the circumference.

Arcs output set to parallel/perpendicular to tool axis.

In NX 7.5, many (not all) passes were mostly arc output (with exceptions around the blobs) ("arc" = internal toolpath CIRCLE/ line)

In NX10, when regenerating these operations, a *few* passes remain as arcs, but many passes turn into "a whole bunch of linear moves".  Users are not happy :-(

I called GTAC, but I never got an email with the IR number.  But other than making the tolerance tighter (which didn't work particularly well - there were a few more arcs, but a LOT more linear moves), they didn't have much to offer.

 

Are there any other things that will trigger this change, or force NX to prefer arcs to linear moves?

Make the Intol - Outol looser not tighter.

Are the "roughly" cylindrical surfaces true analytic cylinders? Or just surfaces that approximate a cylinder?

Iam 100% agree with KEN_A - something is wrong with mill arc interpolation till last update in NX10 . I remeber nx 8.5 , arcs were fine in any planars (XY , ZX , ZY). My friend notice same issue last 3 days ago on NX10, we compare our work and install new MP pack on nx ( 10.0.3.5 MP8 )  - nothing change - arcs in ZY or ZX do not generate as KEN_A says above , there are too many lines and mayby three or five shredded arcs on whole area, and the surface after finish milling looks like rasper . PRT model came from nx 10 (same environment) and was modeled by using simple cylinder and extrude feature with 798 mm diameter .

 

I attach the picture, everything is shown there

 

As a summary - XY interpolation is working good,

ZX and ZY interpolation is working as lottery , sometimes better sometimes worse.

NX 8.5 did not have this problem.

I have enclosed a test model from NX 10 by using contour_area operations.

Look on two operations:

* contour_area_ZX

* contour_area_ZY

 

Yes, arcs are there, but there are also unnecessary lines.

I notice that sometimes setting tolerane are helping but try to set part stock on 0.05 or 0.1  - its much better but its not a solution.

 

I noticed that sometimes all NX Postprocesors (and not only my own) doesnt output arcs on G18 and G19 from contour_area. But when I type part stock from 0 to 0.05 Postprocesor start output arcs.

I have the same issue as Ken_A with arc interpolate in all planars.

Has anyone already reported this problem?

Was the problem listed as fixed in the release notes of the MR or MP you installed?

 

If Siemens doesn't know about it, there will be no fix in any release.
