Fixed contour with Cutcom 2D (G41,42)

Phenom

Hello to everyone,

it is possible to do this operation with 2D radius cutter compensation?

Customer wants to machine modeled thread and use cutter comp.

(I see only toggle for 3D contact data. It gives me G41,42 but I want path generated on surface.)

thank you

For Fixed/Variable contour operations you can get cutter comp on the tool centerline (compensate the dirrerence in tool radius), by adding a UDE Cutter Compensation. You can not output the contact point (compensate the full tool radius)

What is your application for 2D cutcom in surface contouring? It would only be accurate for planar cuts on vertical faces, and for that we would use zlevel.

This is floow wall. It is good.

Application : machining the steep surfaces with fixed contour - to get same type of paths on the picture above with any tool type.

I agree with customer´s demand and I suggested to add 2d cutcom option beside the 3d cutcom in fixed contour.

Now it is ER.

(I remember on guy he made special operation for this.

For hole chamfer machining. Quite nice piece of job.)

NX 10.0.3 has cutter compensation with cylinder milling.

NX 11.0.1 has helical cut-pattern with the floor wall operation.

Would be good to know which NX release we have to deal with Smiley Wink

If you need a 2.5D tool path stay with 2.5D operations, which support 2D cutter compensation OOTB.

As I said in first post - customer wants to use it with modeled thread.

Big modeled thread= any surface.

Doesnt matter if it is end mill or T cutter, or ball mill.

Or for example milling the cone with 2D cutcom+contact data. Not zlevel or cavity.Fixed contour.

Floor wall and cylinder milling wont help.

There is no other solution to genarate contact data + switch on 2D utter compensation (G41/42).

NX11, any NX.

There is an ER on it.

Using the drive method "Curve/Point" will output "contact data", since the tools tip is driven by the curve.

An edge is also accepted as a curve, just if you didn't know.

Adding cutter compensation trough the UDE will turn it on and off.

You can also create a ready to use operation template with the UDEs applied, so the user just has to select the correct edge and generate the tool path.

Curve point generates path on the tool center.

We want path on the part.Radius compensation. And not only with this method.

Also adding UDE doesnt automatically respect direction of the path G41/42.

Possibility is add UDE and use not radial compesation but "zero radius" tool in the machinetool.

But again UDE is not automatic.

If you need a solution now, then you need to accept a work-around.

If the ER is not of interest to many customers of Siemens, then you will have to wait for ages or even forever.

May be it is easier to create a custom operation to provide the function the user needs.

I think you want 2 things:

1. 2D cutcom in a 3D path - you need to do that in the post.

2. Path at the contact instead of tool center - either use a near zero tool, or output contact data and do it in the post.
