[Hole Making] Tool Drive Point

Hi

I have a question on the Drill Depth setting.

The depth of the hole is 50mm.

I want to cutting only 40mm on the basis of Tool Tip.

I changed the Depth value to 40 with User defined.

However, the Depth value appears as a tool SHOULDER criterion.

Is there a way to solve it?

You can apply bottom stock.

Typicall the depth of a blind hole is reflected by the full diameter depth.  I have seen some drawings call out the depth as the tool tip.

Try switching your Machining Area to MODEL_DEPTH.

Thanks for the advice.

Machining Area is FACES_CYLINDER_1

When Machining Area is FACES_CYLINDER_1, Depth value is recognized as SYS_CL_SHOULDER. When Machining Area is SYS_CL_TIP, Depth value is recognized as TIP.

I think the depth value should be reflected in the Tool Drive Point option regardless of the list set in the Machining Area.

Is not it?

I miss the old Point to point drilling....

Where you could specifiy the top , bottom , and move on. Now you have to deal with all this .... Its not worth the benefits ...

You can still use the point-to-point dialog.  You need to customize the .opt file

If you using NX out of the box you can edit the

C:\Program Files\Siemens\NX 11.0\MACH\resource\template_set\cam_general.opt file and un-comment the drill.prt

Restart NX and you shuld have the old Point-to-point operations.  We still use this so we can use the engage and retract options.

First I would not alter the depth value of the feature, but use the predefined depth instead, which is much more reliable and better captures the users intent.

The NX documentation has some explanation about this subject, did you check them out?

Is the hole modeled or not?

P2P was raped in the past by users to do things it was not intended for, drilling on the other hand is focused on drilling.

If you have found an issue, report it, so that development can fix it.

I reported the Lack of the Engage motion on 1/7/2014  it was changed to an Enhancement Request and has yet to be reviewed.  Er # 7161767

Since this is called hole making, it is focused on machining holes.

If you need multiple purpose tool paths, use generic motion. The "gmc" module is part of all modern 2.5D milling NX license packages, like NX12450, and add-ons, like NX30408 and NX30432.

P2P was only point-to-point, so it was highly raped.

This feature recently stopped working for me, and behaves differently in NX12.0.1 than it did in previous versions. I am unable to control the SYS_CL_TIP and SYS_CL_SHOULDER. Both options give the exact same result, which moves the tool down in depth equal to the "point length". This has made a repeat job with many holes a complete nightmare for me. It will be a mess for whoever works on it next, due to all the manual depth tweaks now required.
