Hole Milling in NX9.0.3

Creator
Creator

We do not like the behavior of Hole Milling in NX9.  We don't use Feature based machining, yet Hole milling only uses features now.  We like the Behavior in NX8 where you can pick multiple faces and have them generate rapidly.  However, we do like having more Non-Cutting Moves like Clearance Shortest Distance.  Any chance that a future release would allow both behaviors in Hole milling (regular and feature based).

Hole milling does not require feature.

I know the UI says feature geometry, but you can just select the cylindrical faces in the holes.

Mainly it is the delay in recognizing the hole and the inability to choose both a counter bore and a hole in the same operation (solid model). Also, defaults to the counter bore even though you have chosen the hole.

Have you tried creating a hole/boss geometry and use that?

I don't think they will go back to the ancient ways of doing things in CAM.

Using geometry groups is the preferred way anyways, so you have only one place to apply geometry changes and don't need to change 20 or more operations.

That is kinda what we are doing.  We see the logic. It's just that we do quite a bit of "One Off" parts that we'll never see again.  So we are looking at up front speed rather than a long term investment in design updates/changes.

Thanks, Scott

I do not understand how it works - see image.

Select hole1 and hole2, after select hole3 see alerts. I want to milling various holes in one operation. Is it possible?

Thanks.

What kind of operation are you using?

Can you upload the part file, so we can investigate your data?

The problem is that the holes are of different types, hole with one step and holes with two steps, see attached image.

To machine the two sided holes from each side separately, you must find them from each side as STEP1HOLE, which must be done manually in the machining feature navigator and not through the operation geometry dialog.
