How to define an Entry/Start point for a Cavity Mill Operation?

[ Edited ]

Hi everyone,

Im looking for some help on this. I'm working with a Cavity mill operation.

I want the tool to enter at an specific point on the piece that I am working on, but when i change the non cutting moves options, the tool always starts in the same position and enters at the same point doesnt matter what changes i have done. I selected linear engage for open area with no results.

I have also tried changing the Start/drill point and selecting the point I want to be the entry point bit it didn't work.

 I want the tool to enter at the point that I show on the picture. Hopefully im being clear enough and someone can help out with this.

thanks in advance!!!

Can you share a picture that shows the part and the path?

I'm assuming you want to rough the material out with this operation. I got mine to work by using:

Cut Pattern -> Follow Periphery

Cutting Parameters -> Pattern Direction -> Inward

Then just used a linear engage of 60% to start off the part. ( Image shows a 0% move ).junk.PNG

NX 8.5.3.3

Thanks a lot MLos. That was exactly what I was looking for. I changed the Pattern direction to Inward because it was set in Outward making the tool was always entering at the same point and it worked perfectly.

You helped me a lot!

Thank you again.
