How to detect multi Taper holes for hole making

Hi All,

 

How to use features manager to detect multi taper holes? Or any other option to find and select taper holes automatically?

 

I attached a sample part for testing purpose, it's only containt two taper hole which is no problem to select manually, but the original part contains more than 2000 holes (Please see below image) , anyone can advice how to select them automatically?

Hello Javis,

I send you movie for automatically select. You will see in video, i changed tool axis with all axes at MCS_Mill. Its for to select all holes which is at other axis positions. (for exp. you can make in 5 axis machine.) Also you will see a list for different type holes. I had choose Hole_Round_Tapered for your question. But you can change it for other types holes or slots. It work for find different feauters. I hope it will be helpfull for you. I could not open your file because its new version. If you send me NX11 file or parasolid file, i can do it with your part.

Hello Javis,

The tapered hole is not one of the ootb recognized feature types.

The 1st solution is to manually select the geometry for each operation:

  • Open the drilling dialog and open the "Specify Feature Geometry" dialog
  • Press the "General Selection Filters" icon and choose Detailed Filtering
  • in tab Types select only Face and in tab Detailed Types select only Cone (this is specific to your model geometry).
  • Drag select using the rectangle around the part geometry. As a result you should see the 2000 cones recognized.

The 2nd solution is to teach this geometry as a custom feature. In this example I choose to add a recognition rule for the existing type pocket_round_tapered:

 

  • Teach.JPGTeach Feature
  • select the (4) faces that belong to the feature
  • Teach and OK the dialog
  • Find Features:

  • On your part it will be recognized 2000 times.
  • Just group them and move the operations as children:
