IPW-3D Holder Collision Check

Does anybody else ever have problems with the tool holder gouging the workpiece? The vast majority of the time, the collision check works just fine. You can see in the picture the tool holder clearly buried in the part.

 

I have the collision check on, with .050" of clearance. I am using cavity mill with .030" depth of cut. All I did was change the depth of cut to .008", and it worked fine. This has been a problem for several releases now.

 

Anybody have any insight to this problem?

The collision checks are getting better with each release.

Since you are on NX 10.0.2, are you able to test the initial settings in NX 10.0.3 MP19 or NX 11.0.2 MP3, which are the most current releases?

I have used cavity milling quite often and for many releases.  I don't recall seeing tool holder collisions much at all.

 

Can you make the part available so we can look at your settings?

I have notticed some improvements over the last few releases. We are getting ready to upgrade to NX11, but that could be months away. Im looking forward to seeing the improvements.

Because I mostly make prototype parts, I am not able to share them. They won't even let me send them to GTAC, which is why I have not been able to get any tech support on it. When it happens, I can usually find a work around, but now that I have moved up to a 5 axis machine, it becomes much more important.

Since the upgrade is months away, why not upgrade to NX 12?
