ISSUE RELATED TO REST MILLING

HI

I am practicing on rest milling operation in NX cam.

I have machined two pockets with a End Mill of 30mm Dia with Cavity mill operation.

Now i want for the rest milling of these pockets with the end mill of 6mm of Dia but in rest milling , toolpath is not just limited in the corners rather it is spreads every where in pockets just like cavity mill operation.

I know a technique of Specifying trim boundaries to limitize the tool only to the corners but i want to know how to clean these residual corners without specifying trim boundaries.

my part model is attached here.Rest mill.JPG

Aagha,

Try going into the cutting parameters

under the containment tab reference tool

call up your 30 mm cutter

re generate

try that

Under mill_contour, the process called Zlevel Corner would do exactly what you are looking for...

Kinda of forgot

we go into verify and under the 3d dynamic tab hit the play button then create a ipw after it plays

use the ipw you created for the blank on the tool path that you want to use the 6mm cutter with

then we go into the cutting parameters and use the reference tool as described in last reply

The settings in the Containment tab of the Cutting Parameters will help you with what you want. Rest Milling is initially set to use Level Based IPW, but changing this to 3D IPW gives you the additional option of specifying a Reference Tool. If you use the Reference Tool option and select that 30mm diameter tool you previously cut with, your cuts will now be limited to the inside corners where the reference tool could not reach.

and what paul said

z-level corner works great on corners  (but not for floors)

we find that the generation time is a lot longer when using 3d ipw

thats why we create an ipw through verify

I know this is solved but isn't the problem that the operations don't share the same workpiece parent?
