In Process Workpiece in Drilling (options(None, Use 3D, Local) in Feature geometry)

Can somebody explain three options(None, Use 3D, Local) in Feature geometry dialog of the DRILLING operations?

I just reviewed the help doc, but I am still confused. I would really appreciate if someone explains them with examples.

They are there for the sole purpose of confusing and baffling the user. You twiddle with them until it seems to work, then think you've finally cracked the mystery - only to discover later that you actually didn't.

Would also like an explanation that clears it, can't make sense of the documentation..

  1. None
    • ignore any removed volume of previous drilling operations
  2. Local
    • take into account the removed volume of previous drilling operations
  3. Use 3D-IPW
    • take into account the blank volume specified in the workpiece group

The default is using the local volume, which only looks at the removed volume within the area of the drilled hole.

"Use 3D-IPW" is most suitable for calculating cross holes for gun drilling or if you drill from the blank.

That is my personal understanding based on some tests of my own.

I think that the easiest is to check these settings with a counter bored hole with two steps.

Use hole milling to machine the first step. Use drilling to machine the second step.

Toggle between local and none in the drilling  operation to view the difference.

Add an oversize blank to the geometry and toggle between all three options in the hole milling operation to see the difference.

still preview of material is from top to bottom.

ven if blank is lower. Or is there any other logic?

I don't think that there will be any difference with a simple through hole.

You will only see a difference if the blank is bigger than the part in this case.

true, if material is cutted there is difference, if it is lower from begining - there is no difference

In most cases None and Local have no difference.
