Sometimes if I start a new machining file not from a template I get a problem with my IPW not recognizing previous operations. For example if I do a rough operation then a finish pass, the finish pass will remove all the material that the rough pass did. It's like the rough operation never happened. When I start a new file I choose cam_general and mill planer. The templates I created don't cause this issue. I feel there is a setting somewhere, but not sure where.
If you are not using the geometry groups, then it is not supported to use IPW.
The key to succeed in using the IPW is to specify the geometry through the groups instead of within the operation only.

Sometimes if I start a new machining file not from a template
Can you explain what you mean by this? The setup is always created from a template of some sort.
In your part, do the operations share the same blank geometry parent?
What does the geometry view of the Operation Navigator look like?
There is no customer default or manufacturing preferences related to this.
Please provide a screenshot of your ONT in Geometry View. Then we can see the operations you used. I assume you have set part and blank. Did you save the part before trying to get the IPW?
I sent it into gtac and they told me to change it in containment. It was my first time using cavity mill and didn't not realize you have to do this.
OK. Not every CAM operation is sensitive to the IPW. That was one reason I was asking for the ONT picture. E.g. if you use PLANAR_MILL, it just doesn´t care by its nature.
