NX CAM, engraving text on uneven surface, no extrusion in part, just text as constraint

Experimenter
Experimenter

Hi guys,

i want to engrave some text on uneven surface. I was able to create op with single lined text and outlined text (fixed contour op + text on a surface).
What i want is to engrave whole letters like a pocket but just with text on a surface as a constraint (no extrusion), look at the picture below for further details.
What would be the right way to do this?

We are just starting to use CAM at our company so I'm fairly new to CAM. (NX10.0.3.5 with NX13420N + Teamcenter 11.2.3)

Thanks in advance!

A couple things...

1) If the projection of the text to the surface starts getting really distorted, you could try creating a "developable" surface (typically cylinder/cone, and in some cases a ruled surface) that is "closer" to the final surface.  Wrap the text onto that surface, then project.

2) To me, the easiest way would be to trim/subdivide the faces after projecting the curves, then machine the resultant (partial) faces with negative "bottom" stock (If I understand your desires correctly).  There may be other ways to use the feature curves to trim the cut area.

I am assuming you are trying to "emboss" the lettering onto your part, without having to actually model an extrusion / offset...
